Your Responsibilities
- Maintain all technical installations, systems, and interior areas in full working condition, in cooperation with 1st engineer and per manufacturer's instructions.
- Ensure compliance with maritime, national, and company regulations; report any deviations to the 1st Engineer and Captain.
- Conduct daily inspections of propulsion, electrical, HVAC, freshwater, and wastewater systems, adjusting as required, supervised from 1st Engineer.
- Record daily fuel, ballast water, and freshwater levels in MX Suite / MXP / Marad
- Prepare all records of all maintenance, repairs, and technical reports, including Fuel & Lubricating Oils and Daily Repair Books for the 1st Engineer.
- Manage strongly together with 1st engineer: spare parts, consumables, and repair orders; supervise subcontractor work.
- Execute secure bunkering procedures and co-develop winter repair and dry-dock schedules in close coordination with the First Engineer.
- Ensure technical safety and security compliance per the Nautical Technical Manual; always carry a Walkie-Talkie.
- Support the 1st Engineer and Captain with company policy implementation and coordinate responsibilities with other engineers.
Specific Requirements
- Valid Service book for inland rivers, with an engineer stamp in it. (Schifferdienstbuch)
- Experience as Second or Assistant Engineer, ideally on river cruise vessels.
- Strong knowledge of propulsion (Veth Z-Drive), electrical, HVAC (Carrier chiller plant), and wastewater systems (Martin Systems).
- Skilled in MX Suite / MXP or similar maintenance software. (Marad is a plus)
- Excellent troubleshooting, repair, and reporting skills.
- Strong organizational and teamwork abilities under pressure.
- High sense of safety, responsibility, and attention to detail.
- Assigned learning activities, training sessions, and mandatory safety and emergency drills.
- Excellent communication skills in English. German and additional languages are an asset.
